Being gritty is indicated by working tirelessly towards one’s goals and keeping at it without losing interest in spite of challenges and/or fatigue. Demonstrating gritty characteristics refers to being able to make adjustments in one’s behaviour according to the circumstance and being able to delay gratification while still working on the task at hand. Resilience is what helps an individual adapt to changes in life. A person who exhibits resilience is better able to deal with these circumstances and ‘bounce back’ from them quicker. The present study sought to equate the levels of grit and resilience among working professionals belonging to three different working sectors: defence, private and public sector. The complete sample was divided into three-equal sized groups and data collection was completed at the workplace of the subjects. Data was analysed through ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey test. Personnel belonging to the defence sector showed significantly higher levels of grit and resilience as compared to personnel belonging to the other two sectors. Implications of these results were discussed in the light of existing research.Published
